But I went back to bed and stayed there until NOON! Yikes. I just could not make myself get up. Yesterday I went for an acupuncture treatment which usually energizes me. But perhaps the body just needed a slow day to make up for all of the hiking and walking I've been doing. But I so enjoyed the lazy morning. I listened to KCAW, Raven Radio - Sitka's NPR station. I tell you it is THE best station - SO eclectic and wonderful and funkily Sitkan. I ask you, where else are you going to hear Aaron Copeland, Britney Spears, Willie Nelson, and the Lumenescent Orchestrii (a Moldavian gypsy folk band) in the same set? VERY enjoyable. I also loved hearing the Capital Steps parody "Buy Buy Some American Pie" (including the lyrics "you just might be eating some of Little Debbie's toe") - very funny.
I stayed in bed debating - "rest or food?" and food won out, so I got dressed and decided to have lunch in the hotel bar. (Yum - a fresh salmon burger. And the other day I ate fresh grilled halibut, salmon and shrimp at a street vendor's (am I repeating myself?) and last night I went to a potluck at St. Peter's. Wow. These people know how to cook.
The waitstaff in the bar told me it was a "personal dining" day today. Apparently the cruise ships had a very rough night last night and they canceled their harbor calls today, so us Sitkans have the town all to ourselves ;-)
I called Hank this morning - "Dee!" he said - and we reminisced about the night that a bunch of us went up to the top of Harbor Mountain and sang and drank wine and sang and told stories and sang and drank some more wine and I told him that "that was the night I never wanted to leave Sitka". Hank is a guitar player from the south and he's opening his own musical school (make that 'music school' - not a school that is musical). I took guitar lessons from him one year. He's a delightful character. I told him I'd see him today, but it's quite a walk out to his place by McDonalds and the DMV, so I'm going to check out the Sitka bus service and get a ride out there (although, to tell you the truth, I'd rather just go back to bed).
And my friend Carrie called me. She's the friend with whom I pilgrimaged across Spain last year and she's back in town after spending the summer employed as a birder on tiny St. Lazaria Island. She's only here until Sunday, so we will get to see each other on Saturday night. I really lucked-out on that, time-wise.
AND SPEAKING OF STAYING IN BED, HERE'S SOME VIEWS OF THE RUSSIAN CEMETERY

("CEMETERY MOVIE" - nothing exciting, just 60 seconds of walking around in the cemetery)
